St Andrew’s Church in Barnston and St Mary's Church in Dunmow have been part of a team ministry since 1996. Barnston Parish Church dates back to the twelfth century and is situated on the edge of the village of Barnston in a quiet lane. Whether at a regular Sunday service, when packed for the popular “Carols by Candlelight” service or as a venue for evensong on a long summer evening, it is a very special place. It is essentially a Norman church that has been developed through the centuries and can seat up to 100 people. The church is lucky enough to have a very rare historical barrel organ which was built for the Church by the firm of Bevington and Son in the late 1830’s/early 1840’s. It is regularly played at festival services and can sometimes be played, by request, at weddings and funerals. The church is surrounded by a beautiful and peaceful churchyard which contains many interesting memorial stones, including a Commonwealth War Grave.
