Your Wedding
We love a wedding. Both of our beautiful churches; St Mary’s, Great Dunmow and St Andrew’s, Barnston, are available for Marriage Services. By choosing to marry in church, you are choosing the best possible start by asking for God’s blessing on your life together. The marriage service is the centrepiece of one of the most important days of your lives and we will do all we can to make your day really special.
Can I Get Married in Church?
If one or both of you live in the parish of Great Dunmow or Barnston then yes, you can almost certainly marry in church. If both of you live elsewhere, you’ll need to fulfil one of the necessary criteria in order to become eligible to marry in church. One of the easiest ways to do this is to worship with us on a Sunday in either of our churches, regularly (at least once a month) for at least six months. You can also marry in church if…
you have lived in our parishes in the past, for six months or more;
you have been baptised in either parish;
your parents have lived in either of our parishes for a minimum of six months;
your parents or grandparents were married in the church you wish to marry in.
Our Churches
If you are eligible to be married in one of our churches, you can choose between St Mary’s Church, Great Dunmow or St Andrew’s Church, Barnston.
St Mary’s is the larger of the churches, easily able to seat up to 250 people. St Andrew’s is a small, rural church able to seat no more than 100 people (including wedding party and choir etc.). Wherever you choose to have your marriage service, we wish you every blessing and assure you of our prayers and support both now and in the future.
