Notices for the week beginning March 18

Welcome to our services. If you are visiting us for the first time, do let us know. If you have children with you please don't feel embarrassed if they make a noise or if you need to go out at any time. At St Mary's there is a children's corner with toys and books, so please do make use of this if you would like to. There is a toilet in the church hall at St Mary's and at the back of church at St Andrew's.

Most merciful God, who by the death and resurrection of thy Son Jesus Christ hast delivered and saved the world: grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross we may triumph in the power of his victory; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

ST. MARY’S CHURCH NURSERY. Dear friends of our church family, we would like to let you know that after 20 years of invaluable service to our Nursery, our founder and supervisor Mrs Susan Berry will be retiring at Easter. Mrs Helen Worthington and Mrs Claire Bishop will both be assuming the shared leadership of the supervisor role.
We would like to honour Sue for her very deep commitment, hard work and dedication to the children of Great Dunmow and to our nursery over her time with us and to invite you contribute photos, memories or a contribution towards a leaving gift.
If you would like to contribute towards a leaving gift for Sue, then please put your contribution into an envelope marked “Sue’s leaving gift” and put it through the Vicarage letterbox. If you would like to contribute photos or memories towards her leaving card then please email

THANK YOU! I would like to say a huge 'thank you' to the PCC for the beautiful flowers and gift token, given to me on my 'retirement' after 10 years as editor of Outlook. My thanks also to the Publicity Group for all their support during that time and finally, my thanks to Ann Deakins, who has taken on the role of editor with such energy and enthusiasm. Sally Rippon

NEWS FROM HELEN FLACK. My training at St Mellitus College is rapidly nearing completion! I finish my course in June and will be ordained deacon in Chelmsford Cathedral on Saturday 15th  September at 2pm - and I do hope that many of you will be able to join me there for that joyful celebration.
I can now announce that I will be serving my curacy as a Self-Supporting Minister in The United Benefice of Stansted Mountfitchet, Birchanger and Farnham. I am delighted with my appointment and really looking forward to working with Paul Wilkin and his team there, but also aware that it does mean saying farewell to you all at St Mary’s this summer. Please do continue to hold me in your prayers at this time of growth and change in my life. Helen

ST. MARY’S ELECTORAL ROLL. St Mary’s Electoral Roll is being revised from Sunday 4th March until Saturday 31st  March, in preparation for the APCM.  Those already on the roll need do nothing but anyone who would like to join the roll is invited to complete an application form available from the noticeboards by the pigeon holes.

YOUR VIEWS ON THE PEWS. Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey. An interesting spectrum of views was expressed, all of which are valued by the PCC.
Benches – There is a clear preference for the St Mary, with many finding the Theo uncomfortable.
Chairs – More balance of preference between the Theo and the St Nicholas.
Concern was expressed over the weight of the St Mary bench for moving and stacking, the visual impact of bench stacks in the aisles, plus the idea of replacing one kind of pew with another.
The St Nicholas chair is the easiest to move and store as it folds flat and hangs on horizontal trolley bars rather than going into a tall stack.
We are due to receive production samples of the St Nicholas chair with the wooden seat on the 13th  March.  Our evaluation will close once we have had the opportunity to try these.
You might be interested to know that the St Nicholas chair costs 17% more than the Theo chair, and the cost of five St Nicholas chairs is almost the same as the cost of one St Mary bench (1800mm 4-seater).

DEADLINE FOR NOTICES. Please note that the deadline by which requests for notices to go in the notice sheet need to reach Caroline, is 10am on a Wednesday morning. Any notices received after that cannot be guaranteed to be in the sheet for that coming week.
