General News for both parishes (unless stated)

THE BIG PICTURE: Take Two! Following the success of the last film, we are showing another on Friday June 27th at 7.30pm at the Dunmow Arts Centre, Haslers Lane. The film is 'Once' a story about two would be musicians in modern Dublin. It has been described by critics as 'a film that will warm your soul'. To find out more about the film and see the trailer, go to www.opendoordunmow.org

THE NEXT FAIRTRADE stall will be on Sunday 28th June. It will be the last one before September so stock up now for the summer.

A PARTY WITH A DIFFERENCE ! On Sunday June 29th at 3.30pm we are inviting all the families who have had children baptised in the last two years back to church for a short fun service with a puppet theatre followed by tea and games in the Vicarage garden. It would be good to have some members of the congregation present as well - if you would like to come please speak to Mark. If you can help with catering please contact Jay. If you can help with games please speak to Jo Parker (873239).

Cake-making. The marathon has started! The Countess of Warwick Show (August 24th & 25th) is now only 11 weeks away. St Mary's is, again, providing the Cake Stall combined with refreshments. As we discovered last year, mountains of cakes can be moved! However, a mountain of cakes takes a lot of baking! An early start will help. Bake now … freeze for later …. and be ready for the summer rush. Further advice and information is available from Vera Davies or David Ainge.

Remember the Rev. Noel Mellish, VC, MC. At 3.00pm on Thursday 19th June a bronze plaque commemorating this former Vicar of Great Dunmow will be unveiled by the Mellish family near to the War Memorial in the High Street. If you're available, come and share in this glorious one-off event.

St Mary's Sponsored Walk. On Saturday 28th June thirty intrepid walkers will tramp the streets of central London to raise money to boost St Mary's Church funds. They invite non-walkers to support them by Sponsoring them. Ray Cheal's Sponsor Form is on the Noticeboard at the back of church - if you can, please add your name and sponsorship amount. Thank you.

Day out to Walton. To cover the cost of the buses for this trip on July 19th there will be a charge of £7 per person. If you'd like to join the folk who're going, please see David Rose or Pam Cheal to book your place.

Men's Week-end away. Eddie Clark from St Anne Line Roman Catholic Church has sent information about a Men's Week-end, organised by Harvesters, on July 11th-13th. The venue is Woldingham Park School, Marden Park, Woldingham, Surrey. Further information on the church notice board or from www.harvesters.org.uk
