Happy New Year!
A very happy New Year to you all. 2008 already! The years seem to go by faster – and plans for the future have to be made even earlier.
Throughout the country, this year has been designated Hope 2008. Individual Christians, and whole Christian communities, are making plans to demonstrate the love of and passion of God through local practical actions. One such example is our Prayers for our Neighbours project (read about it elsewhere in this edition of Outlook).
In the middle of July the town becomes the focus of the world as we celebrate the institution of marriage. The unique Dunmow Flitch Trials are to be held on Saturday 12thJuly. Applicant couples are submitting their applications now. The Management Committee are drafting the plans for a very busy time. Tickets will be on sale very shortly, and the excitement will rise as the summer draws near. A very special Flitch Trials’ Service is being planned to take place at St Mary’s on Sunday 13th July at 10.30am to bring the week-end to a fitting conclusion.
And then there’s the Olympics! I expect the TV companies and the Press Agencies will be heavily committed to covering those frantic days of competition and controversy. Let’s hope the outcome is of fair contests and trouble-free spectacle.
These things are just some of the year’s headlines. Every one of us can add to these our own special events – babies to be born, couples to be married, careers to be advanced, forthcoming significant birthdays and celebrations, etc.
So, may 2008 be special for each of you. And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him.
