News from Dunmow St. Mary's School
A Fresh Start!
During our Assemblies we have used the theme ‘A Fresh Start' to focus on Prayer this term. We now have a Prayer Wall in the hall where children are encouraged to write thank you, sorry or please prayers. When Canon Ainge brought in the Sunflower prayers used at Harvest in St. Mary's Church the children were able to contribute with enthusiasm to his talk on prayer.
On Wednesday at 11.00 a.m. there is a short prayer session which members of staff are invited to come along to if they are free.
Quite a few of the classrooms were re-decorated during the summer break and the Year 5 toilets have had a modern makeover. Teachers are now busy creating a busy and interesting learning environment for their new classes. Topics are always varied and stimulating, challenging children to find out more about themselves and the amazing world we live in.
Reception children are settling in quickly and will soon be ‘Going on a Bear Hunt'.
The Year 1 Topic is based on a book called ‘Titch' giving children the opportunity to learn about feelings and healthy eating.
Year 2 will be opening their Pumpkin Soup Lunchtime café again this term raising funds for a charity of their choice.
In Year 3 the children have already visited the London Aquarium as they find out about how to conserve ‘The Blue Planet'.
If you have been down by the River Chelmer recently you may have seen Year 4 children busily engaged in their local geography topic.
Year 5 is taking a trip down memory lane to the 1960s, the heyday of The Beatles (and some more mature members of staff).
Year 6 pupils are studying the book ‘The Green Children' which raises awareness of difference and how to deal with prejudice.
We have welcomed a new member of staff, Sophie Stahl, who trained at Cambridge University Institute of Education and is now enjoying teaching a Year 3 class.
Please pray for us as we start another busy school year.
