Churches Together in Dunmow
The Churches Together in Dunmow committee is drawn from six churches in Dunmow and Barnston. It meets 4 times during the year in January, April, July, and October (AGM) to plan and co-ordinate events.
St Mary's was represented by Canon David Ainge, Canon Rosemary Drew, Gerald Crowley and Mrs Sue Goodman..
The programme for 2006 included: -
Unity Supper during the week of prayer for Christian Unity at which Eddie O'Lack spoke. A leaflet drop was planned for the Town.
Lent Course - CTD sponsored "Praying in Pain" three sessions with excellent speakers followed in Holy Week by Stations of the Cross.
Christian Aid Week 13th May -19th May. House to House collections (£5,984.55) were organised to over 4000 houses and three events (£540.38) were held during the Week. In addition a collection (567.54) was authorised at Tesco's Supermarket A total of £7,092.47 was raised for Christian Aid.
Walk Roding Mission - from 30th September - 8th October we had 30 visitors to Dunmow and Barnston, led by Rev'd Don Cozens, who held evangelistic meetings in churches and schools and did a great deal of house to house visiting. Many people asked for literature and follow up courses were organised.
Town Carol service was held in Foakes Hall in December and was well supported. Contributions from the primary school and from Rev'd Mark James, our speaker, were especially appreciated.
The Mayor's Charity Community Fund has made a donation of £200.00 to Churches Together for promotional materials.
We were sad that Fr Gordon Godfrey of St Anne Line Catholic church died during the year.
