Choir & Music Group Report 2006 - 2007

Choir

The choir continues to sing regularly at Parish Communion, festivals, special occasions and weddings and to practise every Thursday evening during term time. We appreciate the regular encouragement and positive feedback we receive from other members of the congregation about the choir's contribution to our worship. Thank you to all the choir members for their commitment, hard work and good humour which makes this possible.

In June 2006 we hosted a party of visitors from Holstebro in Denmark for an enjoyable weekend of sight-seeing, socialising and worshipping together. We were sad to bid farewell to Helle Kamstrup on her return to Denmark in the summer. She continues to keep in touch and has already been back to visit and to sing with the choir.

At present all our members are adults since we said goodbye to Amanda Michell, who is now studying music at Royal Holloway, University of London, and to Elizabeth and Amanda Beecroft. We were pleased to welcome two new adult members to the choir recently.

Some of us attended the Royal School of Church Music Area Festival at Chelmsford Cathedral in November. A few members continue to follow the RSCM Voice for Life programme. We were delighted to be able to present Liz Kerry with her dark blue level medal - the result of much hard work on her part. Two of our members will be taking the RSCM Dean's Award examination in April 2007.

We are always happy to welcome new members of all ages.

Music Group

During the past year the music group has, by popular request, been a more regular feature of our worship at St. Mary's, providing musical leadership at All-Age services as well as for Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.

The membership of the music group is flexible, people attending whenever they are able to do so. We are grateful to everyone who has contributed to the music group for their enthusiasm and support. Singers or instrumentalists of any age or ability are welcome to come and join us: we meet to practice at 9.15am in St. Mary's Room before the 10.30am service on the first and third Sundays of each month.
