Hearts & Flowers

Mother's DayIt’s the season of true love. As I write this I am aware that St Valentine’s Day (February 14th if you need reminding) will soon be here. Florists, garden centres, card shops, chocolate manufacturers, and a whole host of other manufacturers and retailers will be assaulting our senses with the latest must-buy items for those we love. The noise of cash tills working overtime will bring joy and delight in many quarters.

How do you prove your love for someone? Nice words help. Appropriate gifts are good. Time and companionship are often much appreciated – especially as we’re all busier than ever. Giving of ourselves means so very much.

The picture of God given to us in the Bible is of One who gave freely and unconditionally of himself for us. He gave us life, love, a welcome into his family, and the promise of his presence at all times. Even before we were aware of him, he did all this. We read of it particularly in the life and work of Jesus – but a careful reading of the whole Bible will find many examples of this overflowing love for us humans. He obviously thinks we are worth loving and, of course, we are.

How can we respond? Well, bunches of flowers and boxes of chocolates are not very appropriate, but a heartfelt “Thank you” would be good. Why not come along to a Church Service and tell him exactly that.
